Tools of the Unknown
Class Description:

We’ll break down the essential equipment used during modern paranormal investigations and how each tool helps us document potential unexplained activity. From tried-and-true devices like EMF detectors and digital recorders to the evolution of custom-made paranormal boxes designed to interact with the environment in unique ways, we’ll cover what works, what doesn’t, and why. We’ll also touch on the common misconceptions about paranormal gear fueled by television shows, and discuss how investigators can avoid relying solely on flashy tools and focus on practical techniques and evidence-based methods. Whether you’re a seasoned investigator or just curious about what’s in a ghost hunter’s toolkit, this session will provide insight into how the right tools—combined with critical thinking—can enhance an investigation and help separate fact from fiction in the search for answers.

Class Outcomes:

Attendees will have a clear understanding of the most common tools used in paranormal investigations, including how they function and what types of evidence they help collect. They will learn the differences between equipment designed for data collection versus devices intended for interactive responses, such as custom paranormal boxes. The presentation will also cover how to properly use and interpret these tools to avoid false positives and common mistakes. Additionally, attendees will leave with realistic expectations about what this equipment can and cannot do, as well as tips for building a basic investigation kit of their own. Most importantly, they will gain insight into how combining technology with logic and observation creates a more credible investigation approach.
